Creating the ultimate kitchen has always been a priority of mine. I always told Josh (my fiancé) that all I wanted in my house was a yellow kitchen! Over the course of the last few years I have carefully built my kitchen ensemble with much planning and consideration. I don’t want my cupboards filled with every knick knack possible, I’d much rather have a few key, quality pieces which do a lot for me.
Multi-Taskers if you will, to keep your space simple and clutter free, leaving room for just the good stuff.
Today I want to share with you my thoughts on:
The Instant Pot
The Instant Pot

“Instant Pot is the latest 3rd Generation Programmable Pressure Cooker designed by Canadians with the objectives of being Safe, Convenient and Dependable. It speeds up cooking by 2~6 times using up to 70% less energy, and, above all, produces nutritious healthy food in a convenient and consistent fashion. If you live a fast-paced, health-oriented and green-conscious life style, Instant Pot is designed specifically for you.” – http://instantpot.com/
Quickly become a cult classic product, I have been playing with mine since Dec 2016. Being a kitchen tool I once feared (Grandma used her noisy stove top contraption and it was too dramatic for me), now I take pleasure in using this quiet, intuitive, product.
So what is a pressure cooker?
“Pressure cooking is a method of cooking in a sealed vessel not permitting steam to escape below a preset pressure. Because the boiling point of water increases as the pressure increases, the pressure built up inside the cooker allows the liquid in the cooking pot to rise to a higher temperature before boiling.” – http://instantpot.com/technology/what-is-electric-pressure-cooker/
Essentially you get your food made FAST. Not only is the Instant Pot bringing pressure cooking to the 21 st Century, it is also a slow cooker, rice cooker, yogurt maker and you can also sauté or brown your food in it too!

Knives should be one of the first things you spend your rainy day money on because they are an item you will use daily.
As soon as I heard about Shun Knives from this Alton Brown Video and from that moment onward I knew these were to knives I wanted to collect.
Shun Knives are different because they are incredibly thin which makes them cut like a dream while staying light in the hand. So far I have only two in my collection, an 8 inch chef knife and a pairing knife. These two knives are worth investing in because you can do nearly 80% of your kitchen work with these staples.
“If there is one knife that you simply can’t be without, it’s this one. The Shun Classic 8-in. Chef’s Knife is an all-purpose blade ideal for a wide variety of cutting tasks. The eight-inch length is perfect for preparing fruits, vegetables, proteins, and other foods. The wide blade keeps knuckles off the cutting board and is extra handy when transferring cut food from board to pan. With its curved belly, the Chef’s knife can be gently “rocked” through fresh herbs or spices to produce a very fine mince. Shun Classic’s thinner blades makes it lighter and less tiring to use than comparable European-style Chef’s knives.” – https://shun.kaiusaltd.com/knives/knife/classic-8-in-chefs-knife

Everyone knows the Vitamix.
A dietitian’s dream product because the Vitamix can blend up whole foods incuding the seeds, peels and all that nutrition that comes with em! The Vitamix also makes preparing dressings, dips, soups, smoothies, frozen desserts, nut butters, flours and doughs easy and fast (the idea is that you will eat out less and eat more whole foods)!
I also love how easy it is to clean mine. Soap and warm water, turn it on and bam, it’s cleaned!
“Vitamix machines have all the power you need to pulverize ingredients, releasing flavors and marrying them together to create better-tasting blends. When a blender can help you transform healthy ingredients into foods you actually want to eat, people notice. Because taste matters when it comes to supporting your healthy lifestyle.” – https://www.vitamix.com/ca/en_us/why-vitamix/power
I remember visiting the Canadian National Exhibition (The CNE for short) in Toronto with my family year after year; we would all watch the demonstrations of this wondrous blender sample the offerings again and again, until finally it was decided that we would take one home with us.
Smoothies were never the same.
Years later when I worked as a Food Service Supervisor I was able to work a few extra overtime shifts and decided to pick one up of my very own! Never looked back since.
The bottom line: You don’t need every kitchen gadget, choose ones which you can imagine yourself using daily, which have multiple uses, and are of high quality – they pay for themselves when you break down cost per use.
